Need To Find A Budget Friendly Apartment? What To Do

Posted on

When you start to look for an apartment for rent, there are some details you may not even realize that are important. The price that is listed may not be the cost that you have to pay to live there, and the apartment that they show you or say you may get may not be what you actually live in. To be sure you get a great apartment, and the apartment that you imagine, be sure to go over these things with the complex manager before you sign any paperwork.

Pre-Approval Requirements

You may sit down for an hour with a manager to find out that they aren't going to lease to you. Find out if they do a credit check, if they do income verification, if they require references, and what all needs to be done so you can rent the apartment. You want to be sure that your credit and the people that are willing to vouch for you are ready to go before you go in to fill out an application.

Total Cost

The total cost that you spend to live in the apartment each month is what you need to know the day you fill out the application. Ask about the following fees:

  • Utilities
  • Parking
  • Waste Removal
  • Water

These are just a few expenses that may come up. It's probably worth the extra money to pay for parking and waste removal. Ask them what the average cost throughout the year is for utilities in one of the apartments.

Move-In Discounts

If coming up with a lot of money up front will be a concern for you before you move into the apartment, find a facility that is offering move-in discounts. This could be a company that requires no deposit, that gives the first month free, or that doesn't require both first and last month rent at the time that you sign your contract.

Apartment living is great if you don't want to commit to a mortgage, and if you only want to live somewhere for a few months or a couple of years. You can find a great newly constructed or preexisting apartment that is spacious, that has the features that you want, and that is in the area of town where you want to live; you just have to take the time to look. Talk with the local apartment managers to get the best deal.
